I have had a few computers in the last couple of years, and each time I have learnt something about the design or the brand.
In particular I want to focus on cases, they seem to be a undervalued component for a PC. Pick the wrong one and you can suffer from subtle air flow problems or rattles.
Heres my 2 pennies worth, its my opinion on good case design.
I was expecting a few more :P Of course my logic could easily be flawed, and I just picked the wrong cases. For a simple entusiast I can’t imagine needed funky features.
The renowned quote database Bash.org, is back up and running. It is a favourite of mine to while away the hours.
My new USB pen drive was finally delivered last week and this afternoon started work on trying to get Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) server installed on the little ITX machine.
Now, I am not a Linux geek, I am barely a Linux user :P so I had to do a little research into installing Ubuntu from a USB drive beforehand and thought it was going to be a doddle, how wrong was I!
A great start was from this community page on installing from a usb stick: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick
But the results were somewhat perplexing, the install was looking for a CD ROM drive that (of course) does not exist.
After some much further digging I found many other sources that all really said the same thing, until I found this: https://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/installation-guide/i386/boot-usb-files.html
Using the “flexible” method from that guide, it all just worked.
I was going to write out the steps that I took, but that guide gives a good overview and this page: http://www.eeewiki.org/ubuntu provides alot more information on the subject.
Now to sort out the servers…
Bought a little 1ghz 1gb ITX machine with an 80gb HDD , which is about the size of a CD ROM drive with half the depth.
Check out this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0Ee4tNl3Vg
Hopefully looking to put Ubuntu server on it, with LAMP and SVN. Might look at getting Enemy Territory Quake Wars ded server on it as well.
More info once its up
Woops >.<
I was bad, and couldn’t be arsed to write articles about the tools I use, instead I have made a page with links and will likely write a little blurb underneath each entry instead.
Sometimes I found I really didn’t have enough to write… something I have to work on I guess
Ok so i havn’t done a very good job of keeping this site up to date… I must say though I have been very busy
After the holiday there were lots of things to sort out for the software… get it kicked out the door.
Then theres the yearly partner meeting, which is a whole week of just being busy
Then the user group meeting… and with that i was ill for a week as well… bah summer colds
Then my car goes up the creek and i have to sort out a new one
That pretty much brings you up to speed.
On the world of warcraft front… alot has been happening. We merged with another guild, that brought in alot of needed skills… and has been fantastic. We have progressed quite far with raiding into Kara as well… got Morores down, completed the Opera event and now working on Maiden who we got down to 32%.
Now loads of people are on holiday and its all gone stagnant… we dont have the skills to progress in Kara and of late its been noticable that people are getting impatient to progress further
I even lead a raid the other day… and that was a total disaster… I wasn’t ready… my help was DCing all the time and the result was quite a few complaints… so I dont think ill be doing that for a while….
Apart from that.. lifes pretty much the same.
Oh sister is back from Uni… annoying the hell out of us ¬_¬
So, where I work… hang on, I start entries with “so” too much….
At work, we have locked down the code, gone through several bug fixes and started testing. Its high time I (and my fellow developers) got some holiday… looking back, some of us havn’t had holidays for over 3/4 of a year!
Now I have nothing planned for the 12 days I have coming up… I am somewhat of a work a holic, as I often get bored and probably won’t play games on principle. I do even get worried that those at work might need to get hold of me… this really can’t be normal >.<
I am quite the avid coffee drinker, quite attached to my mugs and I have a particular one that I hold special… coffee just doesn’t taste right otherwise.
But it got knocked over onto the patio only a short while ago and cracked >.<
I will miss it so, however, I have found one of its clones and I have plans to import it into this country!

Watch this space!
(BTW, anyone have an ebay account I can borrow?)
Is it just me or is the right desktop background hard to find?
I can probably put up with the same one for about a month before I feel I need to change it… then I spend the next month looking for a new one. I also have some strict rules that I usually abide by, needs to be “art” in my eyes
It can’t be too dark, can’t be too light. Can’t be too simple, or too complicated.
I won’t accept product placement or movie images unless all the “crap” is cut to a minimum.
Can’t use a game wallpaper for a game I havn’t played, or a movie I havn’t seen
Can’t be a sport I am not interested in, or vehicles I really know nothing about (ala: Cars :P)
… guess im really picky
